Providence is calling a Respiratory Therapy Assistant (Respiratory Therapy, Night Shift, 0.45 FTE) to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, Washington. In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Schedules and confirms appointments.

  • makes follow up appointment confirmation reminder phone calls 24-48 hours before appointment

  • File completed Studies:

  • Ability to bend and file documents.

  • Ability to walk to mail room/loading dock for mail and supplies.

  • Communicate with Provider offices:

  • Ability to communicate verbally with caregivers and providers offices.

  • Ability to transcribe written and verbal orders from providers for testing of patients.

  • Communicate with Staff:

  • Ability to walk/push patents in wheelchairs to entrances.

  • Perform routine clinical ECG procedures. Assist in maintaining patient information/billing logs and electronic databases:

  • Prepare ECG report, including preparation to be read by physicians and then transcribes physician interpretation.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems with the computer system and other ECG equipment.

  • Perform routine periodic maintenance and cleaning of equipment.

  • Maintain adequate supply inventories.

  • Correctly document procedure notes on electrocardiograms.

  • Correctly document required medication information on electrocardiograms.

  • Performs functions related to the set-up, service and maintenance of respiratory therapy functions:

  • Initiates and assists patients and families with incentive spirometry in PACU, ER, and in patient rooms as requested by a physician.

  • Processes soiled equipment for washing, pasteurization and cold sterilization.

  • Ability to provide instruction, and documentation of incentive spirometry.

  • Ability to communicate verbally with therapist, co-workers, families, patients, nursing personnel and physicians.

  • Ability to follow written instructions.

  • Knowledge of infection control and cleaning processes

  • Ability to access policies and procedures online.

  • Sets up circuit on Bilevel devices and ventilators. Performs operation checks prior to making the ventilator available for the next use. Moves Bilevel devices and ventilators to various areas of the hospital:

  • Knowledge of different ventilator settings to perform tests on a variety of ventilators. Knowledge of circuit and humidifier set-ups for a variety of ventilators. Knowledge of disinfection and cleaning procedures specific to equipment.

  • Provides documentation and collects for Performance Improvement Process projects:

  • Ability to prioritize tasks according to department policy.

  • Ability to multitask and use time efficiently.

  • Understanding of process improvement, accurate data gathering, and adherence to procedures.

  • Maintains confidentiality of records, patients, employees, or medical center information. Ensures all information and conversations regarding patients are secured from public access.

  • Reports NPSG per requirements to quality analyst

  • Assists Manager with department scheduling including vacation coverage, call-ins and schedule changes due to increased workload and/or temporarily reduced staffing.

  • Checks equipment, supplies, and accessories on a regular basis, maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas.

  • Replaces and changes "E" cylinder oxygen tanks in various patient care areas.

  • Performs quality controls on cleaning equipment and documents results:

  • Understanding of negative and positive QC results and next steps based on the results.

  • Understanding of improper function of equipment and process to initiate repair.

  • Understanding MSDS how they apply to use and safety of cleaning and disinfecting agents

  • Attends all in-house education as required by the hospital, as well at the Respiratory Therapy Department:

  • Ability to use the intranet and Internet.

  • Contributes to care appropriate to the patient population:

  • Consider data relative to age of patient (chronological or cognitive).

  • Consider age-appropriate resources.

  • Adjusts care to the age-related needs of the patient with in scope of duties.

  • Performs clerical duties per unit routine and as directed by Respiratory Therapy Manager

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • AHA-BLS.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 1 year hospital experience.
