Description:

Providence is calling an RN House Supervisor (Nursing Administration Resources Dept, Evening Shift, 0.65) to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, Washington. In this position you will:

  • Consistently demonstrates adherence to the principles and requirements outlined in the Commitments and Compliance Integrity Program and any other organization or departmental materials related to compliance with laws, regulatory requirements.

  • Consistently demonstrates adherence to Medicare and Medicaid regulations which directly or indirectly relate to the performance and job expectations.

  • Actively participates in and/or supports departmental and organizational performance improvement activities in accordance with hospital and joint commission standards.

  • Participates in hospital and department specific practices to maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment for patients and staff.

  • Maintains the security and confidentiality of data and information used in performance of his/her daily duties conforming to hospital policy, laws and regulations as appropriate.

  • Follows established policies and procedures to identify and reduce the risks of acquiring or transmitting infection.

  • Maintains positive working relationships and fosters a cooperative work environment.

  • Communicates clearly and appropriately using age specific standards with patients and families of patients.

  • Communicates in a professional and appropriate manner when interacting with colleagues, supervisors, peers, physicians, etc. Friendly, positive customer relations required.

  • Provides clear, concise, pertinent reports/information.

  • Regularly monitors staffs’ ability to assess patients according to hospital policy and standards of care.

  • Recognizes and reports signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect for all ages of patients served.

  • Serves as a resource person to staff during assigned shift on conducting assessments of complex or complicated patients.

  • Monitors staffs’ ability to assess learning needs for specific patient populations and age-groups and designs, implements, and evaluates patients education materials with the multidisciplinary team as requested.

  • Serves as an interdepartmental liaison with physician, nursing, and ancillary services regarding patient care follow-up issues for review.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of emergency management and disaster planning for hospital and the community related to trauma service planning.

  • Provides for safety needs of patients.

  • Develops effective communication procedures for interdepartmental as well as inter-agency reporting or follow-up.

  • Demonstrates self-motivation by independently following through with assigned committee or project work.

  • Evaluates effectiveness of care through the collection and analysis of data from chart review, literature search, or other data sources, and participates in recommendations for improvements for the multidisciplinary team.

  • Reports and documents any unusual patient or administrative occurrence that may have an effect on the patient’s and/or staff’s well-being.

  • Ensures effective use of supplies/equipment – minimizes supply wastage. Charges appropriately for supplies used.

  • Ensures effective use of time – organizes and prioritizes care for optimal time management.

  • Ensures effective use of facilities - promptly reports facility maintenance issues to appropriate personnel.

  • Ensures staff for assigned areas complies with organizational practices to maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment for patients and staff.

  • Adheres to safety precautions including hazardous wastes and proper sharps disposal.

  • Monitors staffing plans for assigned areas that identify the appropriate number of competent staff to meet the needs of the patients served by PSMMC.

  • Monitors that competency of all staff members is assessed, maintained and continuously improved per established requirements.

  • Participates in interviews of potential candidates, assists with orientation plans as needed.

  • Reports performance/behavior issues with employees to the department director.

  • Facilitates communication between administration, management and staff.

  • Promotes staff educational and advancement goals that encourage retention.

  • Assists director in monitoring safe and effective staffing needs of the assigned areas.

  • Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.

  • Welcomes and encourages new staff members and students.

  • Serves as a preceptor for new staff.

  • Willing to adjust personal schedule to complete workload.

  • Assists in the preparation and maintenance of the AC budget by providing input to the Administrative Coordinator Lead, regarding resource and equipment needs and by monitoring AC productivity.

  • Assists the director in performance appraisals by collecting data/feedback.

  • Serves as a resource person with regard to infection control issues.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of medical-legal policies and initiates follow-up to medical-legal inquiries or risk management issues, communicates with senior management and Quality Assurance Coordinator as appropriate.

  • Coordinates staff to take emergency action as required on patients by assigning teams each shift.

  • Facilitates staff to report symptoms and significant changes in patient’s condition by following the rapid response policy.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of pharmacy policy and procedures in procuring medications in the absence of pharmacist.

  • Will function as a member of the interdisciplinary care deliver team by making hospital rounds. Taking initiative in assisting other members of the care delivery team and consistently receiving and giving suggestions and constructive criticism in a professional manner.

  • Checks with charge nurse on each unit as appropriate but not less than once per shift.

HUMAN RESOURCES:

  • Employee completes all tasks and duties accurately and timely within assigned shift. Demonstrates initiative to perform job duties autonomously.

  • Attends mandatory and other education offerings per department and hospital requirements. May assist with education on the unit.

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS.

  • Demonstrates self-motivation by independently following through with assigned committee or project work.

  • Produces reports/data as requested for analysis or benchmarking.

  • Accepts objective suggestions for improved performance.

  • Pursues opportunities of personal development and increased management expertise in addition to improvement in technical proficiencies.

  • Attends unit staff meetings (75%).

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Associate's Degree of an accredited school of nursing. BSN required within 3 years.

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Washington State

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)

  • Minimum of three (3) years experience as an RN

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
