Providence Health & Services RN Manager - Emergency Department in Walla Walla, Washington

Description:

Providence is calling a Manager Clinical, Emergency Department (Emergency Services, Day Shift, 1.0 FTE) to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, Wasington. In this position you will:

  • Recognizes and reports signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect for all ages of patients served.

  • Participates in hospital and department specific practices to maintain clean, safe and comfortable environment for patients and staff.

  • Adheres to safety precautions including hazardous wastes and proper sharps disposal.

  • Inventories patient care supplies and identifies when it is necessary to order.

  • Prepares, maintains and cleans treatment and support areas as necessary.

  • Monitors safety of all equipment.

  • Assembles, disassembles and cleans equipment according to eMaintains the security and confidentiality of data and information used in the performance of daily duties conforming to hospital policy, laws and regulations as appropriate.

  • Maintains positive working relationships and fosters a cooperative work environment.

  • Communicates clearly and appropriately using age specific standards with patients and families of patients.

  • Provides clear, concise, pertinent reports/information.

  • Actively participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement activities in accordance with hospital and Joint Commission standards.

  • Assists in developing, implementing and maintaining an ongoing quality improvement program, including implementation of appropriate plans of action to correct identified deficiencies for the department.

  • Cooperates with all personnel within own department and other hospital departments to maintain effective communication and assist in the provision of quality services.

  • Responds to patient and customer complaints from assigned areas in a timely manner.

  • Ensures staff for assigned areas comply with organizational practices to maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment for patients and staff.

  • Develops and recommends staffing plans for assigned areas that identify the appropriate number of competent staff to meet the needs of the patients served by PSMMC.

  • Ensures that competency of all staff members is assessed, maintained and continuously improved per established requirements.

  • Participates in the recruiting process, interviews and selects candidates, provides orientation plans as needed.

  • Addresses performance/behavior issues with employees as needed, follows organizational policies related to discipline and discharge.

  • Facilitates communication between administration, management and staff by conducting meetings and utilizing other channels as appropriate.

  • Promotes staff educational and advancement goals that encourage retention.

  • Maintains the security and confidentiality of data and information as required by Medical Center policy, laws and regulations.

  • Completes all tasks and duties accurately and timely within assigned shift. Demonstrates initiative to perform job duties autonomously.

  • Attends mandatory and other educational offerings per departmental and hospital requirements. May assist with education on the unit.

  • Regularly monitors staffs’ ability to assess patients according to hospital policy and standards of care.

  • Monitors staffs’ ability to assess learning needs for specific patient populations and age-groups and designs, implements, and evaluates patients education materials with the multidisciplinary team as requested.

  • Services as an interdepartmental liaison with physician, nursing, and ancillary services regarding patient care follow-up issues for review.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of Emergency Management and Disaster planning for hospital and the community related to trauma service planning.

  • Develops effective communication procedures for interdepartmental as well as inter-agency reporting or follow-up.

  • Monitors staff effectiveness in providing safe and efficient medication administration in the department.

  • Demonstrates self-motivation by independently following through with assigned committee or project work.

  • Evaluates effectiveness of care through the collection and analysis of data from chart review, literature search, or other data sources, and participates in recommendations for improvements for the multidisciplinary team.

  • Serves as a clinical instructor to meet the educational needs of department.

  • Ensures effective use of Supplies/Equipment – minimizes supply wastage. Charges appropriately for supplies used.

  • Ensures effective use of time – organizes and prioritizes care for optimal time management.

  • Adheres to safety precautions including hazardous wastes and proper sharps disposal.

  • Adapts personal work schedule to organizational demands.

  • Utilizes information to improve department and individual performance, patient care, management and support processes.

  • Maintains records reflecting productivity, utilization cost, special projects, etc.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and accuracy using hospital computer information systems as determined by department access restrictions.

  • Produces reports/data as requested for analysis or benchmarking.

  • Maintains positive communications and relationships with the medical staff, employees and community.

  • Assists Director with assessing department capital equipment needs.

  • Assists Director in monitoring safe and effective staffing needs of the assigned areas.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing

  • 3 years Experience in emergency, trauma, or critical care nursing

  • Current licensure in the State of Washington as a Registered Nurse.

  • Current BLS – Healthcare provider.

  • ACLS, PALS (must be AHA accredited).

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing

  • 2 years experience in a supervisory or charge nurse capacity
